´´What you will read in these pages is a story about a tough young man who lost his way, and the story of a loving God who never forgot Casey, no matter where he was.” (Nicky Cruz, former New York gang leader and best-selling author of Run Baby Run)The Shot Caller is both a never-to-be-forgotten insider’s look at the violent world of gangs and prison life and a powerful, modern demonstration of how God will go to the most miraculous extremes to reach even the worst sinners.Casey Diaz came to this country when he was just two years old, the oldest son of El Salvadorian immigrants who settled in the barrios near downtown Los Angeles in the 1970s. An abusive family life propelled Casey into street gangs at the age of eleven and he rose quickly within the ranks of the Rockwood Street Locos to become their leader. At sixteen he was arrested and sentenced to nearly 13 years in a state prison for second-degree murder and 52 counts of robbery and placed in solitary confinement for twenty-three hours a day. When an elderly woman committed to prison ministry approaches his cell and tells him Jesus loves him and God is going to use him, Casey scoffs at her. Then, one day a supernatural event takes place causing Casey to hit the cell floor and weep. He knows this is almighty God speaking to him, confesses his many sins, expresses deep remorse, and accepts Christ. What happens next can only be described as a miracle. This gritty memoir is perfect for fans of the international best seller The Cross and the Switchblade and any listener looking for an astounding example of God’s grace and redemption. 1. Half-Cuban, half-Puerto Rican, Luis ´´DJ Disco Wiz´´ Cedeño is 100 percent Boogie Down Bronx. Born in the 60s, Wiz struggled in a turbulent and violent relationship with his alcoholic father while trying to protect his mother, who was suffering from breast cancer. Raised in the 70s, Wiz learned the code of the streets while hustling with his crew, the East Side Boys.In 1975, Wiz discovered salvation when he hooked up with the legendary Grandmaster Caz to form the Mighty Force Crew, waging some of the biggest DJ battles in the Bronx during hip hop´s earliest years. When Hip Hop first hit, the DJ was king. Rockin´ the party on two turntables for the b-boys and fly girls on the dance floor, DJs like Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash pioneered an art form that has come to define our times. The first Latino DJ in the game, Wiz, along with Caz, went on to make a ´´mixed plate´´ in 1977 which combined sound bites, special effects, and paused beats. An innovator, originator, and a battle-style DJ with no fear, Wiz swept through the Bronx like a tornado. But the streets wouldn´t leave him in peace. After being convicted on an attempted murder charge, sentenced to nine years in prison, and forced to leave his baby daughter, Wiz was incarcerated upstate at the tender age of 17, where he learned the true meaning of desperation. But as time went on and he overcame his struggles with violence, drugs and alcohol, and women, Wiz eventually liberated himself from the path of self-destruction through love, self-respect, and self-determination.It´s Just Begun: The Epic Journey of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip Hop´s First Latino DJ is a gritty and gripping tale of one man´s struggles to not only survive but triumph over adversity and abuse. It will make your blood run cold. By conquering unimaginable obstacles, Wiz offers inspiration to anyone who has ever wondered, ´´Why me?´´ 1. Language: English. Narrator: Joe Rodriguez. The eight-decade story of a New York neighborhood In 1940, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company opened a planned community in the East Bronx, New York. A model of what the neighborhood would become was first displayed to an excited public at the 1939 World´s Fair. Parkchester was celebrated as a ´´city within a city,´´ offering many of the attractions and comforts of suburbia, but without the transportation issues that plagued commuters who trekked into New York City every day. This new neighborhood initially constituted a desirable alternative to inner city neighborhoods for white ethnic groups with the means to leave their Depression-era homes. In this bucolic environment within Gotham, the Irish and Italian Catholics, white Protestants and Jews lived together rather harmoniously. In Parkchester, Jeffrey S. Gurock explains how and why a ´´get along´´ spirit prevailed in Parkchester and marked a turning point in ethnic relations in the city. Gurock is also attuned to, and documents fully, the egregious side to the neighborhood´s early history. Until the late 1960s, Parkchester was off-limits to African Americans and Latinos. He is also sensitive to the processes of integration that took place once the community was opened to all and explains why transition was made without significant turmoil and violence that marked integration in other parts of the city. This eight decade history takes Parkchester´s tale up to the present day and indicates that while the neighborhood is today predominantly African American and Latino, and home to immigrants from all over the world, the spirit of conviviality still prevails on its East Bronx streets. As a child of Parkchester himself, Gurock couples his critical expertise as leading scholar of New York City´s history with an insider´s insight in producing a thoughtful, nuanced understanding of ethnic and race relations in the city.

The Blueprint for Overcoming Darkness and Living in God´s Light Our world unravels more each day. It feels as if we´re drowning in a sea churning with greed, violence, and lust. As darkness advances, hope dims. Yet within that reality, God gives us a profound mandate.... Be light. Light has always defined God and his followers. At creation God spoke light into existence. Jesus is the light of the world. And we are born to absorb and then reflect God´s light. In Be Light, Samuel Rodriguez - described by Fox News and CNN as ´´America´s most influential Latino Evangelical leader´´ - provides a blueprint for confronting darkness in every realm of our lives. He issues a clarion call for individual believers and the church to rise up and once again be that bright city on a hill that doesn´t simply expose the invading darkness but overcomes it with God´s blazing light. 1. Luis Fuentes has always been sheltered from the gang violence that nearly destroyed his brothers´ lives. But that didn´t stop him from taking risks - whether he´s scaling a mountain in the Rockies or dreaming of a future as an astronaut, Luis can´t stop looking for the next thrill. Nikki Cruz lives her life by three rules - boys lie to get their way, don´t trust a boy who says ´´I love you´´, and never date a boy from the south side of Fairfield. Her parents may be from Mexico, but as a doctor´s daughter, she has more in common with her north-side neighbors than the Latino Blood at her school. Then she meets Luis at Alex´s wedding, and suddenly, she´s tempted to break all her rules. Getting Nikki to take a chance on a south sider is Luis´ biggest challenge, until he finds himself targeted by Chuy Soto, the new head of the Latino Blood. When Chuy reveals a disturbing secret about Luis´ family, the youngest Fuentes finds himself questioning everything he´s ever believed to be true. Will his feelings for Nikki be enough to stop Luis from entering a dark and violent world and permanently living on the edge? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Roxanne Hernandez, Blas Kisic.
